Stuffed animal - A stuffed animal describes a toy animal stuffed with straw, beans, cotton, and other similar materials. Some stuffed animals are very old - home made cloth dolls stuffed with straw go back to at least the 1830s, perhaps much older.
Plush toy - A plush toy or plushie is a soft, often furry, stuffed toy made of plush. They are usually made in the shape of something cute, usually an animal of some sort, though sometimes a human.
Nellie the Elephant - Nellie the elephant is a fictional intelligent elephant from the song of the same name, was written in 1957 by Ralph Butler and Peter Hart. It was thrust back in to the spotlight over Christmas 1984 when The Toy Dolls recorded an upbeat version of the track which reached number four in the festive hit parade.
Glo Worm - Glo Worm was a stuffed toy for young children that glowed in the dark and was designed by Hasbro Preschool and made in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. It was the must have toy of 1982 and at Christmas sold out almost immediately much like the Tickle Me Elmo phenomenon in 1996.

The world's first Teddy Bear Museum was set up in Petersfield, Hampshire, England, in 1984. The name is said to come from an incident on a bear-hunting trip in Mississippi in 1902, when Roosevelt's attendants found and caught a juvenile bear. It is an enduring, traditional form of stuffed animal, often serving the purpose of comforting upset young children. Naming It was named after former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt, whose nickname was "Teddy" and who enjoyed big game-hunting. Written across the lower part of the cartoon were the words "Drawing the Line in Mississippi," which coupled the hunting incident to a political dispute (see picture to the right).
